The Kofford Family relocates to Colorado after 40 years as Californians. In December of 2007, Grandma Lorraine is diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer. Sadly, she passed away on Dec. 26th, 2008 after a year long courageous battle. Follow our journey as we keep Lorraine's memory alive, and as we learn to appreciate that each day we are given, is a gift to be enjoyed!

"Survivor" Girl Scout Style~ A night in the woods...

Hello once again! My plans on writing yesterday to post photos of our great California trip did not happen, because...I ended up spending the night in the woods with Ashlyn last night! That was certainly not the plan, as I had prepared to drop her off and pick her up this morning. After she realized that the girls she was planning on sharing a tent with could no longer come,(one later did come, much to her delight!) and that the girls there were all from other troops, she had a lot more hesitation staying the night alone. So, after running home to quickly pack for myself, in the midst of pouring rain, I drove back out to the campsite! I caught the tail end of s'mores, sing a longs, and a star gazing presentation where we unfortunately could not see any of the planned stars or planets due to the rain. I did see two craters on the moon through the high powered telescope, so I didn't leave disappointed!

A "Survivor" contestant I am not...wet sleeping bags, "holding it" all night because it was less effort to "hold it" than to "go", and sleeping on the hard ground with rocks and pinecones for ground cover was more adventure than I could stand for 40 days! hee hee The best part of the whole experience was spending time with Ashlyn late at night in the tent. We giggled, told stories, and read togther. It was nice to not be "busy" and have time to really be present with her! Here are a few pictures of the event. The California ones will come later...after a shower! :-)S'mores around the campfire inbetween rain bursts.
Reading by flashlight with the sound of a rushing creek outside, was actually very nice!
Ashlyn participates in the closing flag ceremony.
Farewell camping...until next weekend when we do it all again! :-)

Ashlyn will never forget the night you had "the campout". So glad you braved the wild for her! Enjoyed the photos as well as always!
You go girls!

What an adventure your camping trip turned out to be. When it rains it pours, doesn't it? I'm sure it all turned out, but talk about being flexible! Now you have practice for next week. Hope you have better weather. Love,Mom
