Time for a change...
It's time for a change...
I've made changes in the past and modified my diet, exercise, etc... but I usually don't stick with those changes for long. My love for chocolate and sweets is great, and my old habits return quickly. After a yearbook committee meeting yesterday morning at the quaint "Crane Hollow Cafe" I realized that everyone around the table was healthy, active, and looked different than me. I desire that healthy lifestyle, not because I want to "look like" the other ladies, but because years of sweets and overindulging has resulted in 20 extra pounds, high cholestrol, a mouth full of cavities, and plenty of excuses.
So, yesterday I walked 3 miles around the lake, I watched the squirrels and prairie dogs play, and I gave a lot of thought to what I am putting into my body, and what changes I can make to ensure a healthier life. At the beginning of the summer I lost 12 lbs. and was exercising and felt great. Quickly I started eating my favorite cookies and candy and have regained it all.
If I start a new plan will I gain it all back once again? What if I don't stick with it, and put on more weight? Do I want to do Wieght Watchers and will I be able to cook "normal foods" for my family and lose weight on my own? I don't know the answers to those questions yet, but what I do know is that any reason not to start making changes is just an excuse. I'm done with excuses, and ready to turn over a new leaf.
It's time for a change!

Good for you lady! I'm also trying really hard in this department, but it's getting hard. Cold weather, holiday potlucks. Sigh. This takes SO much will power.

I'm ready for a change too! I just took your poll and I might have been the only one who said we eat out 4-6 times a week. I'm tired of doing that. :) I want to cook. :)
Good for you, Denise. By the way, when I saw you the other day, you looked great, but I know that you have to feel that way on the inside too. My friend Erika just started Weight Watchers and I know tons of people who have been successful that way b/c they can eat normally and just pay closer attention. Not that I am a true example of healthy eating, but I have some great recipes I can share with you. Also - how about picking a fitness goal (like the 10K Bolder Boulder on Memorial Day?) to get and keep you motivated? You could walk or run depending on what feels right for you and your body. Can you tell I love this topic? Anyway, good luck with your "change!" I know you can do it.

You are very brave (and determined) to put this out there to everyone. Good for you! I know at our house we do so much better at eating our fruits and veggies during the summer. Then winter hits and its all meat and potatoes, or chili w/cheese. Your post is a reminder to me to serve more green veggies and try to instill good eating habits in my kids now!
I feel ya! Went to my dr today for some pain I am having in my arm, and we started talking about how my body doesn't like gluten, and he said "well, if you know that, why do you eat it?" Good question. I have SO much more energy, feel great, no foggy fatigue, and lose weight if I quit eating wheat.
So what am I waiting for? I have quit wheat lots of times, and love that feeling I get. So its time to do it again.
