Today the kids had off from school, so Ashlyn's Girl Scout troop took a field trip to Anderson Farms in Erie, Colorado. What a perfect city for this pumpkin patch and corn maze to be located! If you come in the evening, you can take part in "Terror in the Corn" which includes a hay ride into a terrifying walk through the corn mazes. Guests are chased through spooky settings where as they say, they "scare the 'yell' out of you!" We haven't been through the evening portion yet, but even I was scared when we heard they chase you with chain saws! Yikes!
Today was the no scare version!
We have always been to pumpkin patches where the pumpkins are already picked and brought to the farm, but today we got to go directly into the fields and pick the pumpkins ripe off of the vines.
We had a choice between picking gourds, orange pumpkins, "Ghost pumpkins" and "Cindrella pumpkins" in pretty cream and peach colors.

Lots of cows were seen on our drive out to the fields, but this buffalo was in perfect view for a picture.

Anderson Farms
Entrance into the "Corn Maize." What a trek this is! There are over 6 miles of mazes that are intricately planned by a GPS system. The aerial views are spectacular, and we were given a small postcard with a map to follow. After 40 min. we were so tired, and later heard that it takes 3 hours to complete the entire maze!
Oh we walked, and walked, and walked...and through mud no less since it had rained the previous two nights! My 3 little girls I was in charge of were tuckered out!
A set of stairs led to a viewpoint where we could see the maze from up high and chart our progress.
Oh, it is a long way back!
This map shows the intricate shape of the miner, his gold cart, mountain and cloud shapes that we weaved in and out of. Next year, I am bringing a compass, as I know that will get us through! (Good thing we all stopped to go to the bathroom first, they recommend doing so, as once you are in, it is hard to find your way out! hee hee)

Spent lots of time in cornfields as a teenager. No bathrooms. Amazing how you can make do when you have to...tee hee.

I really need to go to our corn maze here. You are the 2nd person I know who has gone this year. I think I might just have to organize a little trip out there!

I love fall! It is my favorite time of year! That maze looks like a lot of fun! The chain saws maybe not so much! Do you get the beautiful colors where you are in Colorado?

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! We too went to a large corn maze and found out how difficult it was to find your way out. I think your right that next time a compass would come in handy. Thanks for sharing!
