Today is Tom's sister Shellie's birthday, Kyle's good friend Tyler's 13th, and for those of you trivia lovers, today is also Johnny Appleseed Day!
Mmmm...apples!
Johnny Appleseed's real name was John Chapman, and he was born on Sept. 26, 1774. It is true that he traveled the countryside planting apple trees, and bringing seedlings to the settlers who in some areas where required to plant at least 50 seedlings per homestead. When I was teaching we always celebrated this day with lots of apple activities, and since I too share Johnny's special birthday, my love of apples continues! Enjoy your day, and eat an apple in honor of Johnny Appleseed! :-)
