The Kofford Family relocates to Colorado after 40 years as Californians. In December of 2007, Grandma Lorraine is diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer. Sadly, she passed away on Dec. 26th, 2008 after a year long courageous battle. Follow our journey as we keep Lorraine's memory alive, and as we learn to appreciate that each day we are given, is a gift to be enjoyed!

Hello From Sunny South Dakota!

Hello friends and family!

I have managed to find a computer in the hotel lobby that is unoccupied, so I can at last send you a live post from beautiful South Dakota!

Our trip has been educational, fun, and full of activities! We have driven through and stopped in Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota! Nebraska is next on the list! We have been impressed with all the green rolling hills, ponds, creeks, Ponderosa pines, and more deer and antelope than we can count! It truly is beautiful countryside, and the Black Hills in South Dakota are equally impressive. The highlight for me so far has been seeing Mt. Rushmore. It was just as spectacular as I had hoped, and truly did "enrich our sense of patriotism" just as the signs said! We were fortunate to have sunny blue skies, and great views from all points of the hike around Rushmore.

We've also hiked around Devils Tower, (a huge core of a volcano that has eroded away over 60 million years and sticks straight out of the earth) drove through Bear Country, USA,(think bears, elk, moose, wolves,etc...walking around your car while you watch and snap photos) toured Rushmore Caves (an hour long hike up and down caves to view stalagmites and stalagtites)and more!

The kids are having a ball at the hotel we are staying at with it's indoor water park, 7 water slides, lazy river, rope climbs, palm trees, tiki bar, arcade, etc...You can imagine how they look forward to ending the day with that!

Off for now, but we will check in again shortly! Stay cool, and know we are thinking of you, and as all the postcards say, "Wishing you were here!"

SMILES!!!

Thank you for telling us about your adventures traveling across the states. It sounds like it has been a wonderful trip so far. I am sure that Mt. Rushmore is amazing! How are the crowds? Did you bring the dogs with you? The hotel sounds amazing. I am not one bit surprised that the kids are having such a wonderful time! Continue to enjoy, be safe and can't wait to hear from you again!!!

Gpad you're having a great time sightseeing and enjoying all the scenery. Glad also that the kids are having fun with all the water features. Sounds like the Grand Wailea! As I told you I can still picture looking back toward Mt. Rushmore as we were leaving with that bird's eye view. That was awesome. The five days seemed like it went by quickly and I'm glad the kids are having a great trup. What troopers to do all that hiking. They will really remember this trip. Love, Mom
